The Romanian Black Sea coast is 245- kilometre-long and stretches between the Chilia channel in the Danube Delta and the Bulgarian border. South of the sandy coast of Lake Razim and Lake Sinoe, 50 resorts are concentrated on about 100 km along the mild coast of the Black Sea. Because of their eastern orientation, beaches are exposed to much sunshine ù for an average of 220 days every year. The annual average temperature is 11 degrees Celsius. Nebulosity and rains are, however, quite reduced (375 mm/year). In summer, the heat (25 degrees C on average) is tempered by a gentle, yet persistent breeze, rich in aerosols.
The absence of tides prevents the fine sand beaches from being flooded. They advance gradually into the sea, where there are no dangerous fish species. In summer, the temperature of the sand may go up to 45 degrees C. The average temperature of sea water is 20 degrees C in summer and around 0 degrees C in winter. This prevents water from freezing.
The relatively recent resorts are well suited for water sports, both in the sea proper and on the many natural or artificial lakes strewn along the coastline: Lake Siutghiol in Mamaia, Lakes Techirghiol and Belona in Eforie Nord, Lake Tismana in Jupiter, or Lake Neptun in the resort with the same name. Parks are also very numerous. Certain resorts, such as Neptun, are surrounded by forests rich in game.
